Pre-book Rental Car at Stockholm Airport for huge savings.

Flight Departures at Stockholm Airport

Arlanda Airport is Sweden’s busiest and largest airport. With more than 25 million passengers using the airport for international and domestic flights every year, Stockholm Arlanda Airport has become a hub for airlines covering Scandinavia.

The airport is conveniently close to the city of Stockholm, Sweden’s capital. With excellent public transport connections, covering the 40 kilometers from the city to the airport in just 20 minutes with high-speed rail links, Stockholm is an excellent destination for business, leisure and short city breaks.

Getting to the Airport

Buses, coaches, car hire and taxi services are also available at Stockholm Arlanda Airport and passengers travelling by public transport can catch either a high-speed train from Stockholm’s central station or go to the main bus terminal and take a number of buses from central Stockholm to the airport.

Passengers who have booked a rental car from Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz or Sixt car hire stations at the airport upon arrival, will find a convenient free shuttle bus taking them from the hire company’s office back to the departure terminal, once customers have dropped off their hire car at the end of the rental period.

Passengers who have been staying in nearby airport hotels have the convenience of a free shuttle bus service taking them back to the airport and dropping them off just outside their required departure terminal.

The taxi operators with a connection to the airport charge fixed prices to and from the airport and passengers should make enquiries with the officer at the taxi rank just outside the terminals upon arrival at the airport, to find out which taxi firms charge the lowest fare, so passengers can pre-book their return journey at a competitive price.

For business travelers in a hurry to reach domestic destinations beyond Stockholm Arlanda Airport there is even helicopter hire available. Arlanda Helicopter AB allows departures at Stockholm Arlanda Airport to taxi, charter or hire helicopters for leisure flights.

Services at the Airport

Departures at Stockholm Arlanda Airport will find a large number of restaurants, cafes, bars and well-known branded fast food outlets at the airport, catering for small and large hunger and thirst prior to boarding a flight. Duty free shopping is available at some 50 shops throughout the airport’s four terminal buildings. The airport also provides several currency exchange counters, a bank, hairdressers, a pharmacy and a dental and health clinic for emergencies.

Stockholm Arlanda Airport departures have some 172 destinations to choose from. At the Arlanda Visitor Centre, located in terminal 5, passengers can obtain tourist information about Stockholm itself, Sweden in general and onward travel from the airport. Passengers can also make hotel bookings from here and buy tickets for trains and coaches to a variety of destinations within the greater Stockholm area, Uppsala and for Stockholm itself.

Business traveler departures at Stockholm Arlanda Airport need not worry about interrupting their daily schedule, as WiFi access is available throughout the terminal buildings. There are two ways in which passengers can access the internet at the airport: one way is to visit a Sidewalk Express station at either the SkyCity Plaza location, at terminal 2 by gate 38 or at terminal 5, where the station is located just outside the security checkpoint. Stockholm Arlanda Airport departures with their own laptop have WiFi access, wherever they are within the airport’s terminals.

Baby care facilities can be found at terminals 2, 4, 5 and at Skycity. There are three lounges where passengers can wait, namely the Menzies Business Lounge, the Menzies Executive Lounge and the SAS Business Lounge.

Any departure at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, who leaves hand luggage behind, when rushing to catch a flight, or who needs to pick up delayed luggage should contact Bagport at terminal 5 on level 1 (hittegods@bagport.se or telephone +46 8 797 60 80).

Things to do while waiting

Departures at Stockholm Arlanda Airport may at times be delayed, when the weather is bad during the winter months. Why not use this time to join a guided tour? Passengers can choose between a tour of the terminals to find out what happens step by step at passenger check-in, security screening, baggage handling and boarding, or passengers can take a bus tour around the airport to see runways, hangars, aprons and learn about a variety of activities at the airport.

There’s also a guided tour of the control tower, which allows passengers to explore parts of the 83 meter tall control tower and experience the stunning views from the viewing platform. The tour takes about 30 minutes, leaving passengers plenty of time to catch their onward flights.

Terminals 2 and 5 handle international flights and departures at Stockholm Arlanda Airport seeking to join domestic flights should head for terminals 2, 3 or 4, depending on which airline carrier they have booked with. There are at present 61 airlines operating at the airport and terminal 5 deals with most of the international routes.

For Kids

At the Arlanda Visitor Center children can while away the time by watching films like Astrid Lindgren’s Pippi Longstocking or play for a while in Children’s Corner.
